The Physics Education Research and Innovation Group (PERIG) of Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Monterrey, works, as its name indicates, to update and improve the teaching methods used by professors in the Physics Department.

Doctors Genaro Alarcon and Hugo Zavala were participating in a presentation at the X National Congress of Educational Research, education congress country's largest, this is organized each two years by the Mexican Council of Educational Research, COMIE. This time the congress took place at the Convention Center of Veracruz, Veracruz. Dr. Zavala presented the work: Study of learning in a college physics course using computer simulations in education strategy co-authored with Mr. Juan Jesús Velarde on Wednesday 23 September and Dr. Alarcon presented the work: Influence of scientific reasoning in learning physics concepts in college: a comparison between traditional instruction and instruction by modeling co-authored with Mr. Jorge E. de la Garza on Thursday, 24 September having both a large audience. At the close of this congress was a tribute to the late Dr. Paul Latapi receintemente Sarre, a pioneer of educational research in Mexico and founder of COMIE. .
